zzzzzzzzz

me sleepy. my schedule from the weekend...

friday: woke up at 7 am, slept at 5 am (saturday morning)
saturday: woke up at 11 am, went to sleep at 3 am
sunday: woke up at 9 am, went to sleep at 3:30 am
monday: woke up at 8 am, went to sleep at 2:30 am

i did take many naps on sunday and monday but stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill... i'm soooooooooooooo sleepy this morning. i didn't want to get up to go to work. i was supposed to do so much studying and catch up this weekend for school but did i? no! great. it's week 8. at least it's only a 3 day week! YAY!

btw, cristina and kay, i had a great time talking sunday night. sorry you guys didn't get to use your game cards!

wedding

i had a good time on friday at the wedding. it was sweet to see my coworkers, mike and mandy, getting married. the only part that sucked was the best man speech. at the end of his speech he said, "so congratulations to misty and mike," and everyone's mouth dropped.... um... misty is his ex-wife.

not nice

have i ever mentioned how much i absolutely despise being mimicked after i say something?

this conversation just occurred:

guy 1: dana, would you mind if i took this breakfast bar?
me: no, not at all
guy 2: "no, not at all" ~in a high, whiny, mocking voice~

first of all, i don't think my voice is THAT high and second, why would he do that? i didn't say anything weird and i certainly wasn't talking to him. butt-brained dufus.

don't lose hope when it still exists

There are many popular years being mentioned across the airwaves north of the US/Canadian border this morning.

The last year the Oilers won the Stanley Cup was in 1990. The Anaheim franchise hasn’t won on Edmonton’s home ice since 1999. The last team to come back from a 3-0 deficit was the New York Islanders in 1975 and before that it was the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942. With all of the history aside, the bottom line for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim is that this team, in the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs has been here before.

Let us journey all the way back to May 1, with Anaheim down to the Calgary Flames 3-2 in their conference quarterfinal matchup. With their backs held squarely against the wall, Randy Carlyle’s squad rattled off two straight wins. Game 6 was a 2-1 victory at home on Arrowhead Pond ice and everyone can surely remember the 3-0 shutdown applied by the Ducks to the defending Western Conference champions on their home ice in Game 7.

Sure, this is different. Sure, it’s 3-0 with the potential Oiler clincher to be played at Rexall Place. However, this season Ducks fans are armed with the knowledge that this Ducks club is likely the most resilient to ever skate in Anaheim.

Down 4-0 in the third period in Game 3 on Tuesday night, the situation looked hopeless. Four minutes into the third stanza, the Ducks started a parade to the penalty box. Chris Pronger rifled a slapper by Ilya Bryzgalov at the 4:40 mark of the third period whipping 16,839 Edmonton fans into a frenzied state.

They chanted “We want the Cup” and just prior to the Pronger tally, Georges Laraque did his best WWE superstar impression, “raising the roof” on his way to the penalty box and using the in-house Jumbotron to fire up the fans.

Then it clicked.

With the situation possibly as bad as you could ask for in a Stanley Cup playoff game, Anaheim did the unthinkable.

The Ducks took over the game for the remainder of the third period, scoring four goals in 13 minutes. Anaheim buzzed around Dwayne Roloson like angry bees just woken by the lawnmower on a summer day.

In the end it was a Fernando Pisani goal late in the period on a defensive zone breakdown off a faceoff that stopped the Anaheim rally and sealed the 5-4 Oiler victory.

But the late rush further proved that if there was ever a hockey club that could climb back into a series down 3-0 it is the 2006 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

You better believe there will be a fair share of brooms and purely unoriginal “roast Duck” signs in the Edmonton crowd for Game 4. And while the Edmonton faithful are looking to relive 1990 or any of their other four Cup years, the Ducks will merely be looking to build off that third period.

If the Ducks are to skate on Saturday at the Arrowhead Pond they will most certainly need a better start than they’ve gotten in the first three games of the series. The good news for Anaheim is that after Tuesday’s third period Roloson was proved beatable. In the first three games of the series, the Ducks efforts were rarely in question. Now, they will need to get something for that effort.

Anaheim has not managed a first goal in the series and hasn’t had a lead once in 180 minutes of hockey. Last night, the Ducks power play was 0-7.

Something’s got to give.

So, in the next day and a half when you hear that only two teams have ever come back from 3-0 playoff deficits or that the Oilers are 18-0 when leading a series 2-0 (nevermind 3-0), just think of the 2006 Ducks.

Think about the quarterfinals comeback from just a few weeks ago and think about the resiliency the Ducks showed last night during their third period domination.

Think about 2006 because since the New Year, each and every time we thought the Ducks were done, they weren’t.

So why start now?

catty

ok, for the most part, a lot of the women i meet are very catty. i don't care to talk to them nor do i care to befriend them. growing up, i had mostly guy friends because they're easy to get along with, they're fun, and they aren't typically moody.

over the weekend i, once again, realized how lucky i am to have the girl friends that i do. you ladies are the best. with you, i am in the midst of awesome company.

~i can receive great advice
~i don't feel silly around you
~i don't feel inadequate around you
~i can be me because you accept me for who i am
(there's so much more but i am at work and i am about to step into a meeting.)

nooooooooooo, dennyyyyyyyyyyy!

denny, nooooooooooooooooooooooo! yes kay, i too was absolutely bawling when i watched grey's anatomy on monday night. there was an uncontrollable flow of tears. i love this show so much that i made sure to watch the season finale while i was on vacation in NY.

i felt so much while i was watching the finale... i fell for alex not once, but twice: when he stuck by the team he was drafted to and then when he was compassionate toward izzy and simply held her, i happily grinned when izzy said yes to denny, i ached for burke when his girlfriend, whom he loves, was not able to truly be there for him, my heart broke for izzy when denny flatlined and she lay next to him, i felt for cristina when she realized she'd lost her edge, my chin trembled when the chief's niece simply said, "i've been loved"... there is so much more but i fear reliving the episode will cause me to tear.

AND i have so many questions. SO many. is derek going to leave addison? will meredith pick finn or derek? is burke going to be able to operate again? is cristina EVER going to be able to tell him she loves him (while he's actually awake to hear it)? what is going to happen to izzy? but most importantly, WHY, OH WHY, OH WHY, DID DENNY HAVE TO DIE???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

the new season needs to start this coming sunday, not three months from now, and PLEASE do not move grey's to thursday nights. don't these people know i have class on thursdays?????

can't wait for the next series for the DUCKS. GO DUCKS! whoever said they couldn't make it to the western conference finals needs to be kicked. i mean, hello??? they swept the avalanche. who's done that lately? NOBODY!

hat trick? in the playoffs? what?

wow!!! what a crazy game. of course, i couldn't watch it because i was in a stupid team meeting but i was catching the updates on the unofficial play-by-play online via my lovely pda phone. a hat trick? in playoffs? seriously? PLUS the game-winning goal in overtime??? keep in mind the final score was 4-3. YOU GO, CRAZY LUPUL!!!

since we're on the subject, as a sidenote, i'm not sure if i mentioned back in december of '05 that i decided that Lupul is beautiful, especially his eyes. anyway, i was so stumped by this because it was utterly unexpected, and as a result, when i was right in front of him and should have struck up a conversation, i couldn't. i was tongue-tied. so yea, when he's in a tux? **drool**

dresscode

i don't have a set dresscode to follow at work so on some days i feel like dressing in some nice slacks and a nice top or jeans and a nice top, both options with heels. on other days, much like today, i dress like a lazy bum. so, of course, on the day i choose to dress like the bummiest bum, i am going down in the elevator from the 4th floor, when on the 3rd, a waaaaaaaaaay cute guy steps on and sees me in my bum clothes. whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???? **sigh**

TRUE DUCK

i went to the game on friday night and seriously, where the heck did all of these fans come from??? out of the woodworks to jump on the bandwagon. people need to learn what it is to be loyal. take my friend, linden, for instance, he's been a clippers fan since... forever, and now, when they're doin really well, there are clippers fans all over the place.

anyway, Jay's last comment sparked a bit of... what? i don't know... not anger, not bitterness, but something. (oh, in no way should it be taken that i am upset with jay for his comment. he was just passing on some news.) well, apparently, "sports analysts" are now saying that the ducks are favored to win the Western Conference. HA! at first they were saying the ducks couldn't even beat the flames. i KNEW they could win. i KNOW they have what it takes to win the stanley cup. jeez. it's called FAITH IN YOUR TEAM, people!!!!

The difference between gracious people and real people
